"Sideshow" is a collection of paper dolls drawn in graphite using a technique I call pencil painting; this is a very meticulous and tedious drawing process. Each paper doll is based on an actual figure from the sideshow business (circus, carnival, dime museum, vaudeville). My reasoning for making them into paper dolls, aside from a study in anatomical drawing, was to speak to the objectification of their profession (although the majority of them loved working the sideshows, were paid very well and often reported that they'd found a community/home/family therein).
